May 2nd - NLA Diversity Committee Spring Meeting - Serving Your Spanish - Speaking Customers, at the Atrium Conference Room (near the Nebraska Library Commission) in Lincoln from 1 to 5. 

May 8th & 9th - Public Library & Trustee Section, along with the School Children’s & Young People’s Section Annual Spring Meetings. Register to attend in Grand Island or  Papillion. 

May 9th - College & University (C&U) Section 2008 Spring Meeting at Bellevue University:  Information Needs of Nebraska’s Diverse Populations, with keynote speaker – Julie Todaro.

May 12th - 18th - Children’s Book Week 2008 - go to:  http://bookweekonline.com/index1.html for information, ideas, and more.  Includes info on how kids can vote for their favorites in the Children's Choice Book Awards.  Cool!  Votes must be placed by May 4th.

May 16th - SELS Training Extravaganza at Lincoln Public Schools District Office (5901 "O" Street).

May 22nd - 25th - Mayhem in the Midlands, at the Embassy Suites Hotel (444 South 10th, Omaha) - with guest of honor, Alex Kava, 2006 One Book One Nebraska author of One False Move. June 6th - CASTL (Conversation Among Small Town Librarians) and NEMA (Nebraska Educational Media Association) meeting in Seward.  This is your chance to review the big list of Golden Sower (K-3) nominations, and place your top 10 vote.  Plus, we'll provide information on libraries that have gone "Dewey-less" that will include a bookstore, school and public library perspective.  We hope to see lots of public library staff, and school media specialists.

June 18th - SELS Annual meeting with guest speaker - Bill Kloefkorn, this year’s One Book One Nebraska with - Restoring the Burnt Child.

July 18th - CASTL (Conversation Among Small Town Librarians) at Gresham Public Library with a librarian/attorney, Mindy Rush - to talk about Nebraska Public Meeting Laws. This is our joint library trustee meeting - so invite your library board members to join us.

August

August 22nd - CASTL (Conversation Among Small Town Librarians) at Morton James Public Library in Nebraska City.  Kit Keller, NLC, will be joining us to guide in using Bibliostat Connect for library reports that can include charts/graphs, peer comparisons, trends and more.

September 11th & 12thYouth Services Retreat at Camp Carol Joy Holling.

September 26th - CASTL (Conversation Among Small Town Librarians) at the Lyceum in Brownville. Sure to be a fun and informative day with Jane Smith (Lyceum), Boni Hathaway (Village Bookstore), Tom Rudloff (Antiquarium), and Cinnamon Dokken (A Novel Idea Bookstore) joining us.

October 15th -17th - Nebraska Library Association/Nebraska Educational Media Association Conference in Lincoln.

November

November 14thCASTL (Conversation Among Small Town Librarians) meeting at Wymore Public Library. We’ll have Dee Aguilar (UNL Speakers Bureau) for a presentation on: Humor: What’s So Funny?” This month please read the title – Focus on the Good Stuff: The Power of Appreciation – an adult selection for our book discussion by author Mike Robbins.

December 11thCASTL (Conversation Among Small Town Librarians) meeting at Kilgore Memorial Library in York. Stay tuned for topics of discussion, and odds are good will fit in lunch at Chances R.
